Here's the story as told by our 2008 Canadian Supermoto Champion himself;
"I have some good news to share; we are once again the holders of the #1 Plate in Canadian Supermoto.
Heading into the finale weekend it worked out (through a rain out, scheduling and prior race results) the championship was down to two guys with a mathematical chance to win; current #1 KTM's Maxime Sylvestre and myself. Straight up, we both needed to beat the other to win the Championship.
The qualifier and final were both battles between four past and present National Champions and all were all never more than two bikes apart for the whole deal. In the qualifier Maxime charged from fifth and systematically picked off each one of us.
Unfortunately a lap after getting the lead he lost the front end in a high-speed sweeper and subsequently went off the track in a heap. Another former Canadian Champion Doug Beattie ran us to the flag and I grabbed second after a heavy battle with Aaron Macdonald.
I yanked a killer holeshot in the final and immediately stretched out a four-bike lead which I held until after the halfway mark. With a few laps to go I made a couple of small mistakes that allowed the battle raging behind me to catch up.
Beattie slipped by when I spun on the face of a jump so I settled in behind Doug looking for a mistake or the checkers. I kept tabs in behind making sure there was at least one rider (Jesse Morgan) between Maxime and myself so the championship was secure. Doug rode flawlessly to the finish and there was just no point in pressing a pass and risking the title.
It was a great race weekend to say the least! We also went undefeated for the second straight season in the Vet +35 Championship securing another Championship title there as well.
